TRENTON, N.J. – The Trenton Titans announced the signings of defensemen Andy Thomas and Chris Berenguer and winger Rod Bordson today.
Thomas, 25, is veteran ECHL performer and a native of Bow, N.H. He spent time with the Bakersfield Condors in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and 2010-11 with the Trenton Devils, amassing 41 points (5 goals, 36 assists) in 136 ECHL games. He had a plus-16 rating in 71 games with Trenton in 2009-10.
He also has had three call-ups to the AHL, appearing with the Iowa Chops (2008-09), Lowell Devils (2009-10) and Albany Devils (2010-11), performing in 54 games at that level.
“Andy is a solid defenseman who has excellent leadership qualities and carries the puck well,’’ said Titans head coach Vince Williams. “He has played a number of games at a higher level and I look at him as a leader for our team this season.
“He’s been a leader ever since he played at the University of Denver.’’
Berenguer, 25, who earned the Sid Watson Award as the NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Player of the Year for his 2010-11 season at Hamline University, appeared in eight games with the Trenton Devils last season, registering six assists.
“Chris had an excellent college career, in which he established himself as a solid player in front of the net and as a strong puck-carrier,’’ said Williams. “I like what I saw of him at the end of last season.’’
He is a native of Eden Prairie, Minn.
Bordson, 23, played collegiately at his hometown University of Minnesota-Duluth and played in 76 AHL games – 61 with the Adirondack Phantoms and 16 with the Syracuse Crunch – scoring 24 points (8 goals, 16 assists).
“Rob can play both center and left wing, and his experience in the AHL is certainly a plus,’’ said Williams.
The Titans will play two preseason games, meeting Elmira at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7 at Pro Skate in Monmouth Junction, and visiting Reading at the Sovereign Center at 4:05 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9.
The team makes its regular-season ECHL return at Elmira Oct. 14, with a scheduled 2011-12 home-opener vs. Florida Oct. 22.
