Trenton, NJ – The Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fell to Elmira on home ice Sunday afternoon, 6-2, to split the weekend series with the Jackals. The Titans are now 8-10-0-1 on the year and 2-2 against their Atlantic Division rivals.

The Jackals (10-8-1-1, 22 pts) came out swarming, and just 2:15 into the contest a puck slipped past Trenton goaltender Scott Wedgewood (6-6, 22 saves) during a goal mouth scramble, with Jackals’ Artem Demkov ending up being credited with his 11th goal of the season on the play.

Elmira continued to pour it on in the first, as the league’s top-rated power play struck twice in just over a minute with Trenton’s Jacob Drewiske serving a double-minor for high-sticking and Justin Taylor in the box for a trip. Jack Downing beat Wedgewood first, and Jean Bourbeau swept home a loose puck at the side of the net to increase the Elmira lead to 3-0.

Trenton finally responded early in the second when Marcel Noebels, coming off of his first career hat-trick last night, received an outlet pass from Tyler Hostetter and beat Elmira goalie Marc Cheverie (7-5, 28 saves) to cut the deficit to two. Wedgewood was also credited with an assist on the play.

For the second straight game the home team struggled defensively after scoring, this time surrendering a short-handed breakaway to Jack Downing just 1:11 after Noebels’ goal. Downing made the most of his opportunity, beating Wedgewood with a rising shot just under the crossbar for his second of the night to make it 4-1 Jackals.

Trenton would respond before the second period horn, as Ian Slater walked down the right wing and launched a rocket that beat Cheverie over the shoulder for his second goal of the year. The unassisted goal came with 30 seconds remaining in the second stanza during 4-on-4 hockey to send the teams to the dressing room with the visitors up 4-2.

Any hopes of a Titans comeback in the third were stamped out by Elmira’s Andrew Rowe and Jean Bourbeau, who proved to be Titan slayers during the weekend series. Rowe scored midway through the third stanza, and finished the weekend with five points against Trenton (2G, 3A). Bourbeau added his second of the game – and fourth in two nights – minutes later to cement the Jackals 6-2 win.

Trenton outshot Elmira, 30-28, though the Jackals held the edge in special teams. Elmira went 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Titans were shutout on seven man-advantage opportunities.

The Titans will attempt to rebound next weekend as they head out on the road for two games at South Carolina, Friday and Saturday, and a Sunday showdown with Gwinnett on December 9th. Both contests against the Stingrays are slated for 7:05 starts, while puck drop against the Gladiators will be at 4:05 pm. As always, all games can be heard on the radio home of the Titans, 107.7 The Bronc FM, or on 1077thebronc.com with "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, the voice of the Titans.
