TRI-STATE TOYOTA DEALERS PARTNER WITH LOCAL SPORTS TEAMS TO COLLECT FOOD FOR 6TH ANNUAL TOYOTA TUNDRA FOOD DRIVE

(Philadelphia, PA. 11/26/12) – The Tri-State Toyota Dealers are partnering with local professional sports teams to collect nonperishable food items as part of the 6th annual Toyota Tundra Food Drive. As in previous years, all food collected is being donated to local hunger relief organization, Philabundance.

The month long food drive will conclude on at 10:00AM on Friday, December 14, when a convoy of over 30 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks led by the Philly Phanatic and Philadelphia Flyers legend Bob “The Hound” Kelly will arrive at the Philabundance Hunger Relief Center to unload the nonperishable food items with other special guests.

In the 5 previous years to the 2012 Toyota Tundra Food Drive, the Tri-State Toyota Dealers with the support of the Philadelphia Union, 76ers, Phillies, Flyers, Trenton Titans and other area partners have collected over 60,000 lbs. of nonperishable food for Philabundance. The Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association is comprised of 25 local Toyota dealerships, all of which have made a commitment to fight hunger in the Delaware Valley through initiatives such as the Toyota Tundra Food Drive; in addition to supporting the Phans Feeding Families initiative with the Philadelphia Phillies.

“We (Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association) are very proud to be in a position where we can call upon the willing support of our partners for this critically important event” said Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association President Paul Muller. “It’s staggering when you hear how many people in the Delaware Valley are relying on organizations such as Philabundance, just to get a warm meal. That is why the Tri-State Toyota Dealers have made it a priority to collect over 20,000 lbs. of nonperishable food during the 2012 Toyota Tundra Food Drive, in effort to ensure that no one is going hungry in our communities this holiday season.”

When asked about the Toyota Tundra Food Drive, President and Executive Director of Philabundance,  Bill Clark acknowledged “Through the annual Toyota Tundra Food Drive, the Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association and its partners are truly making a difference for thousands of people in need of food in the Delaware Valley,” Clark added “We are experiencing a 29 percent increase in need and recently experienced a dry food shortage. With such high demand, dry food donations are having trouble keeping up, leaving pantry shelves bare. This food drive will help replenish those shelves and ensure no family goes hungry this winter.”

Philabundance reduces hunger and food insecurity in the Delaware Valley by providing food access to people in need in partnership with organizations and individuals. Philabundance provides a full plate of services through neighborhood distribution programs and a network of close to 500 member agencies in 9 counties. Philabundance serves approximately 65,000 people per week at a cost of 50 cents per meal. There are more than 900,000 people in the Delaware Valley who are at risk for chronic hunger and malnutrition. In 2011, Philabundance distributed 21 million pounds of food.
